Question:

How should I unclog my sink?

So I was giving myself a haircut the other day(I plan on getting a haircut from a professional but just wanted to trim my bangs and other areas)

Anywho some of the hair fell in the sink and I cant get it out. So it takes forever for water to go down the sink now. I live in an apartment complex close to my university, and the sinks have this plug thing that I cant remove.

So is there anything I can pour in my sink to help out?

Anyone have any ideas?

  1. hi ralph here england, under your sink you have a waste trap, this unscrews anti clockwise, have a bucket ready, there will be a little water, look up through your sink and you should be able to get offending hair out ,hope this helps, xx ralph

  2. Get a good quality drain cleaner and leave it in overnight, or you can buy a small drain snake to drag out the clog.

  3. Drain-O, seriously. im not joking cuz our tub clogs up ALOT so we always need that in handy, find it @ Wal-Mart or any grocery store near u

    Good luck ;))

  4. This might sound a little gross, but get some tweezers (preferably cheap ones that you won't use for anything else) and try to pull the hair from under the plug.  I had the same problem in my last apartment and I had to constantly dig around the drain to remove the clumps of hair that would wrap around the plug.  Or if you that repulses you, you could probably get some Draino.  But be careful because it could really mess up your sink.  Good luck.

  5. There are several things you can try.  Draino for one.  Use as directed on the can.  It is safe on pipes.  If it doesn't work the first time repeat up to 3-4 times, always following directions.  It should unclog your drain.  I cannot stress the fast enough, follow the directions on the can.  Make sure none of it goes on you because it is acid and it will burn.

  6. Can I be redundant and say - Drain-O, Liquid Plumber, etc...?

    Or a vat of acid.

Doesn't your university have a cleaning service? Man, what a S****y deal. Mine was the same way. What a joke.

  7. Try a small diameter wire with a little hook and go around the stopper. When you get it in there, twist it and it will snag the hair. If you want to take the stopper out, you have to go under the sink and where the rod from the top that opens and closes the drain attaches to the drain, there is a nut at the drain. Unscrew the nut and pull the rod out, go back up top and the stopper will come out. Then fish the hair out.
