Question:

How should I wash a car with show-quality paint?

The car was painted about 2 weeks ago, and was left uncovered up until today, the pick-up date. Needless to say, there was quite a layer of dust all over it. Is it safe to spray it with a garden hose and rub with a washcloth or rag? Will an ordinary touch-free carwash be safe?

If we do wash it, will it need re-waxing or buffing?

  1. ask the painter, did you have a 3 part or 2 part, is it acrylic enamel, how much hardner did they use?... Imron? do not wash for 30 days. base/clear coat, hand wash only with hose, no high pressure, in the SHADE, has it already been color sanded, and buffed, or will it need that later, If you paid for a custom paint, you should get a complete instruction for the care and feeding-remember, a little dust now is better than scratches later....

  2. As a general rule, it usually shouldn't see anything but water in the first 30 days. For the best results though, definitely ask the shop you got it from. They should know best how to take care of your show car paint job.
