Question:

How should I wear my short hair while in Navy RTC?

I leave to Navy boot camp in 5 days. I just cut my long hair to about ear length. My hair is very thick and wavy. It looks terrible and I need some advice how to put it up while in RTC. I have heard that you can not use hair ties. Are those little clear rubber bands allowed? Can I use bobby pins? How many barrets are allowed to be worn in my hair? Any inside tips? I heard that some girls cut the elastic off thier socks and use those as hair ties? Any advice would be great. Thank you!

  1. short

  2. you don't get to wear anything in your hair unless you're african american and then they let you wear it in cornrolls or whatever they're called. other than that you're out of luck. after you graduate you can wear two barrettes matching you're hair color.

  3. Just use a rubber band and hair pins.  It better be off your collar or the Navy will "style" it for you.

  4. I've heard you just have to have it shoulder length, go nuts from there

  5. if you have to ask, you have picked the wrong place to enlist.  you do not get to decide anything for months.

    good luck.

  6. Shave it off....hooorah!

  7. Thank you for serving our country:)  You will figure it out with the rest of your troop:)  It will work out ok for you.

  8. I was a Navy Recruiter for a little over 7 1/2 years and I learned one fundamental truth with regard to women's hair policies and proceedures.  You won't know until you get there....this is a sore source of contention.  It seems like everytime we got "policy" promulgated for us to put out to our female Deppers, they would come back from RTC and tell us something different.  Your best bet is to go see your recruiter and ask them to call up to RTC for the latest p**p on the subject!
