Respectful of his players and the game. He can't just yell at someone every time the do something wrong or else no improvement will be made. They never lose their temper to players on or off the field and defend them when they feel they are being treated unfairly.

Sometimes they get real close to players and become huge parts of their lives. We saw this with Terry Franconia becoming a "second father" to Jon Lester while he battled cancer and made his comeback to the game.

Those are just a few of many things that make a great coach.
