  1. time and understanding.

  2. patience

  3. hey get him/her involved more in class soon they will start feeling good en wanna work as hard as evry1 else

  4. Help him find something that he's good at. The best teachers don't teach, they inspire. Even the slowest ones get inspired too.

  5. There are two different aspects you must consider.

1.Slow students are generally very intelligent and this has been proven scientifically. Ideally you must spend some time understanding what interests the child.

2.Your way of teaching needs a drastic change. Reason - this child is unable to understand what you say or teach.

  6. The EASIEST way is to teach the whole class and give them things to work on while you work with that student

Second, would be to see if a high school student can come in during that time help out.

Student teachers work just as well.

  7. With love, patience and encouragement.  I was in the lowest stream in my class in grade 4 in the early'70's and by grade 6 I was in the top 4 of my class.  I am now a successful professional.  My teacher ignored me and I fought the good fight to improve.  It would have been so much more helpful if I'd had encouragement from my teacher in grade 4 to make me feel worthwhile and able.  Instead I did it on my own but I lacked confidence in myself and somehow managed to cultivate it alone.  When I was a secondary school teacher before I became a lawyer I had time, compassion and encouragement for the so called "slow students" and not to my surprise they improved steadily when I was able to cultivate those skills which were present in a given student and tell them there was no such thing as "I can't do it".  Instead there was the notion that "I can't do it YET".  Some beautiful work came from these students and I was able to sincerely praise and be proud of their achievements.

Branding someone as a "slow student" is dangerous and not very useful.  The teacher who does this tends to show the student that they don't expect much from that child and hence the child performs to that level.  Expecting more in a gentle way, without fail, tends to cultivate a belief that if it is expected then it must be possible to achieve if the teacher provides the right tools to access that level of achievement.

I truly believe teaching is a calling not a job and should be treated as such.  Young minds are so maleable, I don't believe there really is such a thing as a "slow student".  I used to tell my struggling students my own story and emphasise that all develop at their own rate and that some of the greatest minds in history were at one time or another deemed to be "slow".

  8. I was some what slow.  I have a couple learning disabilities.  First if they haven't gotten tested for any kind of LD I would see what you can do to get them tested.  It was hard on me until I figured out how to deal with them and helped me change the way i was trying to learn things and it made if much easier.

  9. With patience and understanding.

  10. as an individal and with patience.

  11. With patience, understanding, and flexibility.

That student may have a learning glitch in some areas, or they may just not understand how you're teaching.  Either way, you need to figure out what needs to be done in order for them to learn.  A teacher's job isn't just to disseminate information - it's to cause their students to learn.

(The students need to be willing to learn, granted, but it's the teacher's job to put that process in motion.)
