  1. Hello,

I'm an XC coach and I have the same challenge every year.  Here's what works for me...

    1.  Go after the soccer & football bench-warmers....no one sits in XC!

    2.  Ask siblings of other runners, as their parents already know (& like) running as a sport for their child.

    3.  Get friends.  Running is social and friends will usually follow friends.

Check out the link below for more ideas.  XC usually sells itself once people start the season.  Have a great season!

  2. Assuming your school year is over as most of the country has released for the summer, I would just ask friends to join and tell them it's great training for winter sports like basketball. Putting up posters around the school is also helpful, but the most effective thing is to recruit incoming freshman by telling them about team bonding experiences and all that. Good luck.

  3. just ask ur friends if they want to try it and it's good training for sports such as basketball and lacrosse it works 80% of the time

  4. I feel your pain, i was the only girl on my team all through high school. Our coach put up signs and made a paper to give to everyone in PE. it didnt work for us but maybe for you?

  5. I know what our coach did was he went down to the jr. high and told all the kids about how great the sport was and all that kind of stuff. It worked really well because that year we ended up having 97 runners start the season! If he had not come down to our jr. high and talked to us about it I would have never joined!
