  1. With your mouth closed.

  2. in thru nose

    out thru mouth

cary a waterbottle with u to take occasional sips to keep ur throat from drying out to much

  3. You can either drink water before. Or run with hard candy in your mouth. Something like Lifesavers or Jolly Ranchers that doesn't have a lot of sugar.

Your right about breathing, just stay relaxed and control your breathing, deliberately breathing in and out slowly. If you're taking a breath with every step, that's too fast.

Running longer, you have to build up to it. Every 3-4 weeks, add another mile to your daily run.

Running faster, you need to train your muscles for that. If on the street, run a couple of minutes faster than jogging pace. Do this 4-5 times with 2- minutes rest(easy jogging) in between.

If on the track, jog the turns, run real fast the straight aways.

  4. I breath through my mouth. It burns when I breath through my nose, but my track coaches said in through the nose, out through the mouth.

  5. Keep brathing in through your nose and out through your mouth thats a good technique, but to avoide a dry throat, use a honey stick. You can get them at your local health food center, or make your own. Get a plastic hollow tube and put a little bit of honey in it, and while running when your throat gets sore put the honey in your mouth. It really helps, try it.

  6. It's been a long time, and I'm no expert, but I had good luck with timing my breaths with my footsteps.

I would start on the left, in for two steps (left and right) out for two, etc.  When I got in a bit better shape, I made it three (left, right, left....right, left, right....) and finally to four.  It seems to also give you something to concentrate on, to take your mind off how much farther, and whether your feet hurt.
