I have two 12 inch MTX thunder 5500 subs. They are dual voice coil and 300 watts RMS per woofer. They are currently in a bandpass box with a sealed chamber in the middle and two ports on each side. My gf has MTX 4400s, which are a step down, and they push WAY harder than mine, despite the fact i have a 1800 watt amp and she has a 400. Her subs are in a sealed box, does this make a huge difference? I had a shop set up my system and adjust my amp. They set the SW level on my deck to MAX, then set the amp as high as they say it would be smart to have it. I probably could turn it up a little, but the difference is dramatic, like double. I understand dual voice coil subs can be wired together differently to achieve a different resistance and power, but i really dont think my power is lacking. would rewiring and/or getting a sealed box improve my power output? Even partial help on this would be appreciated.

  1. i always liked a sealed box da bass snaps harder...on the amp turn the freq. down to half way and the input up just a little un till u get that thump u want

  2. i personally preffer sealed boxes

the box makes a huge differences but won't make miracles happen

plus u said ur amp has 1800 but that's not rms your amp should give 300 watts rms to each sub

p.s. i have a single 10" THUNDER 5500 in a sealed box powered by 300 rms set at 4ohms and it pounds pretty nicely
