ive tried wireless, but as my house has thick walls it doesnt connect to the internet. I also cant use a long cables as it needs to travel from one side of the house to the other.

Ive thought about homeplugs but their so expensive so is there any other way to connect to the internet?

  1. If you connect a ethernet cable to the master point (adapter,) then you will get better signal and therefore better connection. Wireless works well too, but since you have thick walls It might not.

  2. Army Dude is correct, except for the "highest" part.  The antenna, if it's vertical, works best in all directions *on the same level*.  IOW, the signal goes out horizontally.  If the PS3 is, say, 2 floors directly under a vertical antenna, you could be losing as much as 90% of the signal.

That said, draw a line between the router and the PS3 in your mind's eye.  Other than walls, is there anything else in that path?  Large appliance?  Microwave oven?  Cordless phone?  Another wireless computer?  If any of them, try moving the PS3 a little so that there's nothing like that in the path.  A wifi signal should go through at least a few thick walls.  (The difference between a thick wall and a thin wall is the amount of air between the 2 sides.  The "wall" part is usually 1/2" or 5/8" sheet rock, regardless of how thick the "wall" is.)

Or just try moving the PS3 (or the wifi adapter) around a little.  The wavelength of wifi is about 1 inch, so even moving part of an inch can make a difference.

  3. Your best option is going to be wireless (probably). You should always have your wireless router in the center highest point of your house. Even if it isn't next to your computer. This is because most antennas that consumes have send the signal in all directions. So if you have it on one side of the house then half your signal is going outside.

Option #2 is to get a directional antenna for your access points (probably your router also) and point it torwards your PS3.

  4. My best answer is to move your rowder, or whatever it is to another room, then you can get the internet in there.
