i have a 4 channel alpine amp powering 4 jl audio 6.5's and 2 tweeters. i want to install another set of tweeters. they say they have an in-line crossover so i'm assuming i don't need to purchase a crossover. my initial tweeters are connected to the front door speakers, so i'm guessing i wire the new set to the back two speakers. is this correct or does anyone have any suggestions about how i should hook them up.

  1. use your cd player to power all four tweeters and the amp solely for the speakers.  your door speakers will get a little more juice with the removal of the tweeters from them and since the tweeters are connected to the cd player, you can adjust them a little better, the amp has its seperate adjustments it can make, so overall you can have a more balanced stereo.

Or you could get a small 4 channel amp for cheap and use it for the 4 tweeters, this probably wont matter too much.  I have the same setup in my car and there wasnt much of a difference between cdplayer powered tweets or amp-powered tweets, they simply got a bit louder.  the amp setup simply lets you adjust everything better

  2. You can do the same but if you have the bass boost on the amp up then it will make the tweeters sound crappy, but if the ones you have now sound fine then the 2nd pair you want to put in should be fine also.
