I'm planning to become an preschool teacher at first & then after I'm done with my masters degree, I'm going to become an elementary teacher. What should I do for now?

  1. get a job working at the campus daycare while your in college so you can spend time around pre-school aged tots. That will give you a leg-up on experience.

  2. I went to William Woods University in Missouri.  They offer a Elementary as well as an Early Childhood degree all in one.  It is only 12 extra credits and well worth it.  I worked at a NAECY accredited preschool while in school and was hired mid year right after finishing my student teaching (I graduated in Dec.).

The best you can do is become involved with children in some way.  Even if it is not working at a perschool, work at the YMCA or youth sports teams, etc.  Get some professional experience under your belt.

  3. Is there a reason you aren't going immediately into elementary education?

Sounds like you are taking all of the appropriate steps. Study hard while in college and make the most of your field placement opportunities.

    Good luck!
