  1. if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

if you don't like the air where you are, move over here in northen VA, I have never seen smog except in photos.

  2. why dont you have you friends help you or family help then go to your community center and help their ...

  3. You can't save the environment but you can help. I think the best way is to try to oppose building projects that aim to destroy forests, fields, farmlands, etc. I'm not going to tell you that by recycling, you are going to save the environment because you will not. Try to change the community around you by preserving wild natural spaces.

Just to point out some grammatical mistakes"

This is how you spell "environment"

    "i" is always capitalized.

Your sentence "I been..." should have a period at the end.

  4. you should use the bus instead of using ur own car.....

    or by recycling..visit....www.myspace.com search :ourplanet

  5. First of all, keep in mind that no one person can do it alone...but I like how you seem to be thinking big!  A little common sense can go a long way.  Just remember the three R's:  Reduce, Reuse/Repurpose, Recycle

The first thing you can do is simply reduce your consumption.  This can take many forms.  Anything ranging from walking or biking rather than driving when possible to buying second-hand clothing rather than new (hit the vintage shops...fashion always comes back around...even when certain trends shouldn't) to turning off lights when out of the room for a length of time to turning off the shower when lathering up to laying off the impulse buys in the grocery line to only replacing things when necessary.  Not only is it good for the planet, but it is good for your financial stability as well.

You can reuse things more then once whenever possible or repurpose them at the end of their useful life.  This can take the form taking reusable containers to a restaurant for left-overs (I normally split my meal in two before I start eating...reducing consumption for that meal and give me another...good for the waist line, too!), use a travel mug if you stop for coffee in the morning (rather than using the paper/foam cup many places give you), rip up the old t-shirt that just cannot be worn again into rags to clean up kitchen spills instead of paper towels (wash and reuse...throw in when towels are washed...line dry when possible to reduce electricity use), use cloth napkins rather than paper napkins (wash and reuse...throw in when towels are washed...line dry when possible to reduce electricity use), etc.

Finally, recycle whatever possible.  This could be a four-fold effort.

Don't check out on me, now!.  They are fairly easy steps for the most part.

One facet to this is to know what your municipaliy takes and what your friends' municipalities take.  Most have websites that outline exactly what materials they take and don't take.  Utilizing some of these may take some creativity.  This is covered below.

The second aspect  of this practice is called "precycling."  This is where the packaging of something is part of the thought process of selecting goods along with their overall impact.  For example, most programs take Type 1 and Type 2 plastics.  If yours is one of them, if evaluating similar products, look for the little triange with a number of letter inside.  If one product comes in a container that can be recycled through your local program and the other cannot, the one that can be recycled might be your best choice (remember, only part of the through process depending on how the product was made and how far it traveled).

The third factor is personal creativity and problem solving.  For example, my municipality has, overall, a pretty fair recycling program but it does not take corregated cardboard and neither do the ones around us.  However, my wife and I volunteer at a recycling program that is organized to sell the materials (including corregated cardboard) to a company that will recycle it.  The revenue serves at the primary source of funding to a local homeless shelter.  We take all our cardboard and that of our friends to the progam along with all the other things the program takes.  Not only are we saving landfill space but raising funds to help people that really need help.

The last part of the recycling equation is composting when possible.  Some places simply do not allow it, like homes that are part of a home owners association or an apartment complex.  I get around this type of restriction by collecting my compost and giving it to my friend who use it on his garden.  He gets my compost and I get his cardboard, office paper, etc. to go to the recycling program.

All this being said, keep one thing in mind.  This change will take time.  My wife and I have been working on this part of our life together for quite a while and we are not where we want to be.  We simply take one simple step after another.  Just use a little common sense.

Below, you will see a couple links to books we borrowed from the local library that have helped us quite a bit.

One last thing, share what you are learning with the people in your life.  Many will blow you off but you might be pleasantly surprised how many begin making changes.  Stay positive!

  6. stop farting...the gas deplete the ozone!

  7. For a start shut off your computer and save power. There you go!!!

  8. You can save the environment by using environmental friendly materials. You should use things that can contribute less to pollution.

  9. you can't do much, but when the floods come it is good to have a hummer h1 it has a lot more clearence than one of those wimpey little hybrids, just wait for the revert to their global cooling that was part of the 1970's hystaria. you would be supprised at what those enviromentalists say, and I do quote     "To capture the public imagination, we have to offer up some scarry scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements and little mention of any doubts one might have. EACH OF US MUST DECIDE THE RIGHT BALANCE BETWEEN BEING EFFECTIVR AND BEING HONEST."                                                                                             ----Stephen shneider, lead 2007 UN IPCC report author and climate alarmist, he also wrote the report on the global cooling scare of the 1970's

  10. I was wondering who that person was who kept picking up my trash. STOP that!

  11. don't blame the planets worsening conditon on youself. YOU are helping all that you can, and you certainly aren't the only one trying to live greener. keep up the good work and thank you!

  12. Here is a link to The Global Warming Survival Guide - It has 51 things that can be done. ♥

    http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/e...

  13. Get off your computer and turn it off.

    Turn off all lights.

You can no longer heat your house or use the AC.

    Nope, no TV either.

No cooking of food, you must eat raw.

I know I'm being hard on you. I'm just trying to show that the little phony, plastic banana, feel good things people will tell you to do like change light bulbs and turn the heat down a little would not really matter to any thinking person if these things indeed did affect the environment.

I wouldn't get excited. The reason the earth went through a warm spell was because of sun spot activity. And now since the sun spot activity is really on the decline we are starting to realize a major cooling trend.

Now I'm an outdoors type and I don't like to see ones litter and as a society we need to keep any pollution in check. But as far as saving the planet from global warming we are not causing it so how can we save the planet.

  14. Simple. Reduce of how much things you use. Reuse things that can be reused. Recycle recyclable things.

    More:

Help pick up trash that's laying on the floor or whatever. Also, don't litter. Use energy saving light bulbs and turn off things when unused. Unplug things when they are unused. Lastly on my list, don't drive to often. Make rinding a bike or walking a part of your daily life to get to places.

  15. Let me start off by saying we (my family and I) live completely, 100% “off of the grid and are completely self sufficient”

The house is built utilizing natures natural elements, in the shape of an octagon with 8ft wide arch doors on every wall to catch every angle of wind (typical 4 sided homes have half the chance as one with 8 sides. A circle being the most efficient design). Woodburning stoves, solar chimney, solar AC, solar heating, solar water heating (pool and home), solar stove, solar power, wind power, hydrogen powered back up generator, hydrogen back up water heater, hydrogen stove, 2 hydrogen powered trucks, 1 EV (electric vehicle) and satellite internet.

We also built many green small cabins on the ranch that we offer to family, friends and our on-site off-grid workshop guests, including one straw bale, one papercrete, earth bag and adobe, one cob and cordwood, one underground and rammed earth, one log and post and beam and one rock. Each one actually started as a test for what the main house would be and were later finished and turned into guest cabins. I later wrote a guide on how to build with alternative materials using alternative methods for next to nothing.

We raise meat and milk goats, chickens for meat and eggs, ducks for meat and eggs, trap havilina (wild boar pig), rabbit, quail. brew our own beer from home grown products, preserve our fruits, vegetables, etc. smoke and jerky the meat, make our own soap, cheese.

There are no utility lines, no water lines, no roads, tv, cell service, etc. on our ranch. EVERYTHING needed is produced here. All electricity comes from 27 solar panels, 2 main wind gens and a back hydrogen generator if needed (typically we can last 9 days with all luxuries of sunless windless weather, hasn't happened yet). Water is caught and storaged from the rain. Hot water is made with solar batch water heaters with an on-demand hydrogen hot water heater as backup. solar chimney, solar AC, solar heating, solar water heating (pool and home), solar stove, solar power, wind power, hydrogen powered back up generator, hydrogen back up water heater, hydrogen stove, 2 hydrogen powered trucks, 1 EV (electric vehicle) and satellite internet. Even our vehicles use alternative energy (2 hydrogen trucks, 1 EV electric vehicle converted). Because of this we have no bills, no debt and no mortgage.

I believe this is the first step anyone can make “help the environment”. Once you convert your own life style to a greener more eco friendly route, you can start helping others.

my home has all the comforts listed above plus some. we live very comfortable without effecting the environment. just saying that tol et you know it's possible. you may not want to go as extreme as me and my family but anywhere in between is something.

Without getting to in depth here, Using alternative fuels in your vehicles and harnessing your own electricity from the sun, water, earth and wind are the 2 are key elements in making a green transition and erasing your carbon footprint.

here's a calculator to find out how much of a green impact your making (carbon footprint)

if you'd like to make your next step feel free to contact me personally at www agua-luna com

I've been installing home made Solar panels. Solar stoves, Solar batch and inline hot water heaters. Solar radiant heating. Solar home heating and AC, along with home made wind gens and other alternative energy items for the last 3 years.

You can even make the above projects on site with simple parts from the local hardware stores or auto stores or junk yards. For more info check out some guides I wrote / compiled on how to DIY www agua-luna com

Again these projects can be accomplished anywhere by anyone.

if you absolutely can't do anything in your home at least you can put alternative fuels in your car. most major automotive manufacturers (Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors, etc) recommend the use of bio fuels, and nearly every car manufacturer in the world approves ethanol blends in their warranty coverage.

In fact your probably even driving an ethanol car and didn't even know it.

    The trick is finding fuel.

I've been producing biofuel for about 3 years now, it's not extremely difficult. Basically you need general household ingredients, a processor (or still for ethanol) and some used oil. Blend it, let separate, screen and use. I complied a guide a while back to help walk you threw the process step by step, just email me or check out..

as for recyling the best way i've found without taking money from your won pocket is to join a free freecycle group in your area or visit the habitat for humanity.

If you’d like help in making your self sufficient steps, feel free to contact me directly. I’ve written several how-to DIY guides available at www agua-luna com

on the subject. I also offer online and on-site workshops, seminars and internships to help others “help the environment”.

Hope this helped, feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions if you’d like assistance in making your first self sufficient steps, I’m willing to walk you step by step threw the process. I’ve written several how-to DIY guides available at  www agua-luna com on the subject. I also offer online and on-site workshops, seminars and internships to help others help the environment.

    Stop Global Warming,

  16. Firstly, you are going to continue being frustrated with this one. When you realize that you and yourself cannot save the environment like "Captain Planet" you may be better off.

I could be mean and say... "you have not been trying hard enough" that's why you have been so ineffective... but, I won't.

Global warming is a fad however, being a decent steward to the environment doesn't have to be.

Do not take all this "saving the environment" on your shoulders alone. It is not possible. Just do your part. Recycle if it makes you feel better. Don't throw trash out of your car window. Clean up after yourself. Conserve your gas...walk more.

I find that most folks that claim to be into the environment are out for only one thing... and that is themselves. They do things just to fell better about themselves and better than other people. Most people that own a Toyota Prius don't own one firstly, because of the environment. It was trendy at first, they are pricey and can be used as a status symbol and they are cheaper to keep gas in. So, I get "looks", "look at me I have money", and "look I spent all my money on this car it's a good thing I did because I can't afford much more dough on gas".

The environment in your perspective is going to get much much worse. The earth will get hotter. Thats a given...the planet has a molten core! We are due for an ice age anyways. The earth has a way of reaching an equal-ibrium with itself. It always has. I think people are so worried about the environment because they are afraid of being wiped out. Not because it "is the right thing to do". The last ice age wiped out several species i.e. the dinosaurs, ect. It was their time and they had become obsolete.

I think environmentalism is basically man's fear that he will and is quickly becoming obsolete.

Again, you can be a good steward to the environment. Just don't work yourself into a tizzy thinking it's gonna be all your fault if the environment goes to h**l. It is inevitable. I love the arrogance that man has thinking that they and they alone would and could be responsible for the demise of the earth due to about 3 centuries of fossil fuel consumption.

The earth is much bigger than we are and it does what it deems necessary for its survival...it has done that time and time again since the big-bang... and it will continue to do so. You have heard that "nature is not forgiving"? It is because it does what it deems necessary to preserve itself.

I wish people would stop wearing t-shirts with "re-cycle" symbols on it and claim that they are saving the earth and act exhausted from all the hard work that they are doing to preserve an entity that preserves itself.
