  1. well if you are going to a gymnastics ...gym. then that would probably be the best place. You can practice a lot if the place you go to has lots of those big block things. They're squishy so if you mess up, no harm done.

Other than that, children's playgrounds. Those are huge in the parkour world if you live in the suburbs. Try the trees as well, I've seen traceurs utilize the trees in weird ways. just use your imagination and think of things to do with what you have.

  2. If you are just starting out you should really work on the fundamentals like building up strength and endurance and working on landings. While this doesn't sound like any fun, it can be done simply alongside other training but is essential to your progress. I would elaborate on how to start parkour, but since your question is more directed at locations and obstacles I will withhold.

The essence of parkour by original definition is to be able to get from point A to point B in the most effective and quickest way possible. In this way, you could try starting off with the fundamentals of movement by going to the wooded area you mentioned and plot a point A and point B in a dense part. Your goal such would be to work on getting fluidity down, and if you change the points as you practice, you will gain improvisational skills which are mandatory in real life situations. If you wish to practice vaults and the like, look for trees with thick low branches, or larger logs on the ground.

Finally as mentioned, playgrounds are great places to train the moves you commonly see associated with parkour (ie cat grabs, tic tacs, vaults and precisions). How you use the playsets are up to you as there is almost an unlimited freedom of choice there. Playgrounds also double as a great location for general conditioning (ie chin-ups), and if you have one local to you, I suggest you pay it a visit and look around.

Sorry if my answer was kind of jumpy, I'm a little tired. But I hope it helped, and good luck in your training.
