i want to be a really good 400 runner next year, so i was wondering what i should focus on this winter? is upper body strength important? because i am a 200 runner as well.

i have run 1 400 before, and it was at practice. i ran it in 50.0, and i didnt really warm up.

my fastest 200 was at a meet and it was 22.92.

my acceleration is HORRIBLE, like some jv runners have better acceleration than me.

some important information about me is that i just turned 16, i'm a guy, i will be a junior next year, i am 5' 11", and i weigh 150.

my goal for the 400 is to set the school record and run sub 49.01

what do you think i should concentrate on working this winter? do you need any more information?
