I have my board totaly free of any wax, so would love some advice on what wax i should use at this time of the year and how i should layer it. Am on the English south coast, heading to corwall soon and wales. If anyone also could suggest any good spots for a fairly new surfer that would be cool :)

  1. dude make sure to rub the wax in a circular motion it will give u the most grip

  2. Go to a surf shop and buy some wax. Start with a 'base coat' wax, there are a couple different brands, but I really like Zog's base coat. Just rub it on, cover the whole deck, close to the rails. Afterward, put on a good top coat. I like Sticky Bumps or Poor Boys best, but Zog's is good also. based on where you are surfing, be sure the wax specifies it is for 'cool' or 'cold' water. Wax your board with a fresh top coat before every session. When your wax builds up (at least once a year) put your board outside on a hot, sunny afternoon, and let the wax get all melted. Scrape of what is left with an old credit card. Then start with a new base coat.

Sorry I can't help with UK surfing spots, I'm from the US, but I am glad to see how popular surfing has gotten on your side of the pond.

  3. cant help but sounds dead cool

  4. Just buy some pads, they work well.

  5. When I start with a clean board, I "draw" cross hatches on my board first, with the edge of the bar of wax. Then I use a circular motion with the flat surface of the wax. If you just make circular patterns with the flat part of the wax bar, it flakes off. The cross hatching gives a good base for the wax layers to stick to.

  6. omg no1 noes what they r talking about here!!!!! i guess there probably pommie kooks. na just joking.

your basecoat should be a warm water wax. (i would say hot but seeing as your surfing in england the softer the better)

i would say probably use an aussie or american wax like s*x wax, vyagra or sticky feet.

with your basecoat make diaginale lines down one side of the board with your cake of wax. then make more diaginal lines down the other side of the board, making a criss-cross like effect. (this is perfect for the begining of good humps.)

once u have finished the basecoat u can now move onto the next coat which is the final layer for a good wax-job.

this next coat is to produce the best of the humps u should have crated on the basecoat.

to make the humps alot bigger and better get some cold or icey cold wax (which ever way it is maketted) which should be alot softer then the warm water wax.

now once u have got the cold water wax u cand start doing your final layer.

for this layer get the flat part of the cake of wax and start waxing in small circular motions as us aussie groms call it circlework.

finally when u can start seeing some good humps of wax u r done!

be sure to re wax your board after 6 or 7 surfs.

walla not bad for a 13 year old.
