  1. I would not recommend wearing boxers under a swimsuit.  Wet cotton boxers are heavy and take forever to dry.  If you feel you must wear something underneath for support/protection, wear a brief style suit/speedo.  They dry quick, keep everything in place and provide the security needed when exiting the water so that your stuff doesn't show as the suit clings to your body.

  2. THIS IS AN IFFY...if you dont wear any and your pants fall down your exposed...if you do wear some it takes for ever for them to dry and wet boxers tend to ride up...plus you have to bring a extra pair for when they get wet...

  3. good male suits have a lining so you shouldn't have to...wearing boxers will just drag you down in the water because the cotton soaks up a lot of water weight and could impede your swimming ability...  you wouldn't want to be a sad casualty of "death by boxers" now, would you?

  4. If you feel your boys need the extra support... go for it... Some females, like seeing that a guy is wearing boxers. It may not get you a phone number, or past second base...

But what do you have to loose????

  5. I would never know. I think you should follow your heart and do what you think is best.

  6. This entirely depends on the swim suit.  As some have said swim trunks usually have a mesh brief like lining in which case you don't necessarily need to wear boxers underneath.  I don't like these liners so I get board shorts.

Board shorts on the other hand typically don't have anything on the inside and were intended to have boxers underneath.  So definately wear them here.  Unlike other posts here cotton boxers will not slow you down or cause drownings because it absorbs water, but they do tend to bunch under board shorts when wet.

You can get all kinds of stylish and comfortable boxers made of quick drying fabric perfect for swimming use. REI.com and their stores carry many brands from Patagonia to Ex-officio that are made just for activities such as this.

Unless you like wearing speedo briefs under your shorts I would highly recommend some high tech boxers.  You won't be disappointed.
