  1. use a can of compressed air to get underneath and between the keys.

  2. Compressed air is the answer.  I use "Dust Remover" by CleanSafe.  It is "moisture free cleaning" thereby will not damage your keyboard.  You can also use it on many other items, even house plants!  You can buy this item at your local Wally World in the photography section.

  3. Turn the keyboard upside down and shake so loose dust, dirt, and food crumbs will fall out.

If you have spots or smudges, try Denatured alcohol to remove them. Spray between the keys with compressed air or vacuum the keyboard. For hard to remove stains such as ink, use a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol or an alcohol saturated wipe. There are computer foam cleaners you can use instead of alcohol. Clean nickel and smells new!

Spray the cleaner onto the cloth, then wipe the screen with it.

You can also buy a tiny mini-vac. Good but not that effective!

  4. use a vaccum cleaner exclusively available for that purpose.

  5. Remove the screws from below the key board,  take a soft brush, tooth brush etc and clean the spaces between the keys.  wash the other plastic parts (not the key board) in soap water and any brush or scrubber.  Dry them and re assemble.  I do it quite often and my PC which is 10 years old looks very good even today.

  6. I agree with two of the previous tips.  First thing, turn it upside down and shake it.  (You can also tap it lightly on the desk).  A lot of crumbs, etc., will fall out.  So that's a good start.

After that, use a can of compressed air, which you can get at any photography or computer store.

They do make special vacuum cleaners for this.  They're safe because they have a much lower suction than the vacuum you'd use for your floors.  But it wouldn't make sense to buy one for home use, unless you have tons of money and unlimited storage space.  Don't try to use a regular vacuum, because it's possible to suck the key tops right off.
