How should sprinters weightlift ?

Is it 1 or 2

1. Lift light weights but with alot of repetitions

2. Lift heavy weights but with few repetitions

  1. light with a lot of repetitions....If you do heavy weights its going to add too much bulk which is going to slow you down in the long run


  2. I am a sprinter running for a division 1 college. We do a mix of both, before the season starts we condition our muscles by doing light weight with a high number of reps, and work our way up to heavy weight and few reps by the time the season starts Then slowly decline as the season progresses.

    In my opinion both are good, but the real question is what types of lifts you should be doing. We do more olympic type lifts (power cleans, snatches, etc) supplemented with lunges, squats, and incline. Followed by quick feet/reaction drills, and a lot of different types of jumps and bounds
