  1. Studies suggest that the best strategy is to use your state/district objectives to write an assessment for each unit of study.  Then, use this assessment to decide which strategies will best help students to understand and pass the test.  

    In this way, you are sure to hone the objectives and not fill your lesson plans with unneeded material.


  2. They should be aligned with the scope and sequence of skills for the subject they are teaching and be based on the student's needs.

    Assessment is given prior to instruction to determine need.  Objectives are formed to state what the child will learn based on their assessed need and in relation to the scope/sequence of skills.  Then the strategy that best fits the student's way of learning and the skill to be taught is integrated into the instruction.  After instruction and practice, the student is re-assessed to determine if they learned the skill they were taught.
