Without an adequate agriculture workforce, we are in serious danger of losing control of our food supply—many of our nation’s farm families will fail, U.S. farms will foreclose and will continue to move labor-intensive agriculture production offshore. This will result in the loss of tens of thousands of American Jobs and could compromise the abundance, quality and safety of the food we and our families consume. There is an emerging global food crisis, and we cannot afford to delay any longer. We need to fix the farm labor crisis now. Permanent reforms may require more time, but we can take steps this year to protect U.S. farms and domestic food production.

  1. So speaks someone who is not involved in real agriculture. We do not need the Illegal aliens in agribusiness.

  2. You can't move a farm, silly billy. What we need to do about it is help farmers fix their high tech farm equipment, raise wages for jobs illegal aliens were doing so that Americans can afford them and then DEPORT ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS!

After that we should have a 20 year moratorium on all immigration followed by studies to see if immigrants have assimilated and eliminate the anchor baby loophole.

  3. Pay higher wages and you'll get more applicants. Illegals are effective tools for busting unions.

  4. Mechanize as much as possible to eliminate all the unnecessary illegal farm laborers and UFW members.

  5. We should not address it.  The Farmers cultivated illegal aliens as their primary source of labor and today there is a change going on.  It is a good change too, because if you look, you discover the American Worker does most of the work on most of the farms in this country.  The Feds estimate the illegal aliens do some 17% of the work.

SOO... get rid of the illegal aliens, and at that point American Citizens will take over, and the American People will lose about 300 billion dollars in welfare costs for the illegal aliens.

    Work for me..

We need to elect this guy to boot...

He would solve this issue while everyone else will tip toe around it.

  6. You know what I think is that you are using the same arguments that the big corporations that own the farming industries are using and the pro illegals. First of all we the USA have laws that could bring thousands and thousands of foreign worker to our country to do these jobs and then return them back to their countries.. There are also thousand and thousand of Americans in jail that could do this work and get pay for it. Also the only reason that this companies rather use illegals is so they could use then as slaves and do what ever they want with them. Last week a meat company was raided by the Immigration Dept. and found that the majority of them were working with funny ID's and a lot of them were under age children, working 12 hours a day 6 days a week. In 1986 the US government fix the labor crisis, they claim and gave over 6 millions of illegal aliens permanent resident and now is worse and getting worse every day. What we have to do is to start talking about the problems that we really have and that is too many illegals in our country and start implementing our immigration laws and stop listening to this pro illegals that all they care about in how to exploit this poor people. The crisis we have is worse than you think and is because we the USA are not implementing our labor and immigration laws. When are we going to start.??

  7. The agri-business industry must be paying you to spout propaganda.

  8. Technical innovation and mechanization.  If illegal aliens weren't so cheap we wouldn't be picking fruits and veggies today the same way we did 100 years ago.
