  1. If it still works, the easiest way to keep it out of the "waste stream" is to reuse it--give it to someone who wants it. Examples include religious groups, youth programs, or charitable donation programs. You might even be able to claim it as a charitable deduction on your taxes (consult your accountant or tax advisor on your specific situation).

    Otherwise, electronics have a variety of components that can be recycled and others that are toxic and should be disposed of specially and not put into landfill. An "e-waste" contractor can handle it properly.

  2. Depend on where you live some places have special drop offs and pick ups for stuff like that. Other places it just goes in the garbage.
