everyone (minus the b-day girl) divides the cost of her meal and pays for it in addition to their own.

You can offer to pay for her dinner, or the group can all chip in. If you want to give her some flowers and a card with cash. No women alive will refuse cash.

most people take the whole bill and make it even and the birthday girl pays nothing. or you could just tell her ahead of time that you will be paying for her alone.

The person who organized the going out. How ever, it would be ok also to asked the person who organized it if they want some help. But if you are the person who organized it, you should pay. If it is your birthday, you pay your own way if you organize it, I did.

Of course each person pay their own way, unless one is very well off and has money to burn.

Usually when you're in a big group with friends you guys would pay for it by splitting it up without the birthday girl paying. At least that is how I done it with friends in the past, =).

say there are eight people, including the b-day girl. everybody pays for their individual meal and the b-day person's meal should be split up seven ways so everybody pays a little for it!

This is an issue need to be discussed before getting together. Sometimes divided the birthday person's dinner and add it to our individual meal price. Sometimes we just split the cost for the birthday cake but birthday girl pay their own meal. Of course if it comes up after the meal, as long is fair to everyone, that is okay too.
