How sick is very sick?!?

I'm nearly 10 weeks pregnant and have been sick and nauseous for 4 weeks now. I'm vomiting 2 - 3 times a day and feel quite weak and dizzy. I was only sick once a day with my first pregnancy so this seems a lot, but does anyone think I should be concerned and see the midwife or doctor? Many thanks :-)

  1. You must see your doctor. I was continually sick from 6 weeks to 16 weeks. I was in and out of hospital with Hyperemesis. Your doctor will test a urine sample and tell you if you have keytones. If you do, you are dehydrated and may need hospital admission. I found nothing worked until the doctor gave me Ondanestron.

  2. That sounds pretty normal to me.

You should try to vary your diet and stay away from the things that make you feel sick.  If you can keep down water or clear broth, there's no danger to your baby.  If you cannot even stay hydrated, or if you start to vomit blood, then you need to see your doctor.

Hang in there, this should pass soon!

  3. I think you should just make sure if its good. Go to the doctors. Hope this helps :)

  4. Sounds normal.  Our first pregnancy, she got sick 6-8 times a day.  It will soon pass.  I'd give it another 2 weeks and it should subside then.  Feeling dizzy and weak may be a sign of low iron or sugar.  Be sure you tell your doctor about your weakness and being dizzy (you don't need to see them, just tell them for their words of wisdom).  Be sure to take your prenatal vitamins as your doctors prescribes and plenty of fluids.

Be sure you get good rest.  Just because you might have only needed say 6 hours of sleep with baby 1 doesn't mean your body doesn't now need 10 hours of sleep plus a 1 hour nap now.  Preganancy's vary.

  5. my doctor told me that if im throwing up more than 3 times a day call the dr. (esp if i cant keep anything down)...but to drink alot of gatoraid....so you dont get dehydrated...they also say to eat small amounts at a time so its easier on the stomach....and at maternity stores they have some morning sickness candy that taste really good and got rid of my morning sickness fast so you can look into that....but if that doesnt help talk to you doc about getting some phenergan it stops the nauseous and is safe to take while pregnant

  6. If you're still able to keep some food and liquids down you should fine.

I was really sick with mine, it started at about 6 weeks and got worse and worse, I ended up having to be off work for a month as I could only keep down water, but the doc's were happy for me to stay at home as long as I could drink, they said baby could still enough nutrients from my body's stores ( not that I was overweight or anything lol). It settled enough to go back to work at 14 weeks but I was nauseous most of my pregnancy, espec at night time.

I'd say as long as you're still able to go about your normal activities sure you'll have your 12 weel appoint soon so mention it then. If you feel weak or can't eat see the doc in the next day or two.

  7. Sound kind of normal to me, at least that's pretty much how I experienced morning sickness the second time around.  I would bring it up to your doc at the next visit.  They might prescribe you some meds to help out. Good Luck

  8. all pregnancys are different, my cousin was sick untill 12 weeks then nothing after that, whereas i was sick from 9 weeks till the end i supose! i was sick way more than 2- 3 times a day morning noon and night lol, i am TTC #2 and i am dreading it because i have just started working in a bakers and i remember the smell of pie made me sick lmao! its totally normal just make sure you get plenty of water in you and enjoy it as much as you can!! xx good luck x

  9. I would say very sick would be when you can't keep down anything not even water and crackers. I had hyperemesis and i would say that is very sick...

  10. this is normal, with my first pregnancy i was constantly sick and went off everything!!!

With this pregnancy i'm still sick but i am coping better. My Midwife told me that its a good sign shows that your hormone levels are high!!!

  11. I was the same - even sick on an empty stomach.

Very sick is where you constantly can't keep anything down - even water - to the extent that there's ketones in your urine. Ketones signify that you're burning fat, which during pregnancy you shouldn't be.

Your baby will gets its nutrients from vitamins stored in your bones. But if you're sick so much that you're faint from lack of food then this is a concern.

At this stage the midwife kept telling me it goes by 13 weeks - but I felt so awful that it felt like a lifetime away and that I couldn't last 3 days, never mind another 3 weeks.

It DOES pass but I do really feel for you. I was working too, but found a packet of ready salted crisps in the morning settled my stomach.

They also say ginger biscuits or supplements and mint, but I couldn't face it!

  12. I would talk to the doctor. He will tell you how to make sure you're keeping hydrated and getting all the essential nutrients.

BTW, ginger ale is good for alleviating morning sickness.

    Good luck.

  13. I'd talk to your dr about it but its quite normal. I was the same way with my 2nd and 3rd. Just make sure you don't get dehydrated!

  14. Sounds like quite a lot. Usually with 3 main meals a day, if you're being sick 3 times a day it would mean you're not keeping your meals down.

I would ask to see your midwife, or call them on the non-emergency number for advice.

All the best and hope you feel better s****.>
EDIT: see the link ...'severe vomitting...more than two to three times a day'

  15. I did that for 8 months with my first one. The doctor can prescribe some medicine that will help. I ended up stripping my esophagus and had to sit in the emergency room because I threw up so much. The dizziness is because you are malnourished now. You need to see your doc right away before you dehydrate. I wish I had my doctor now when I had my son, the doctor I had then kept blowing me off saying it would go away, and I couldnt find anyone else to take the insurance I had at the time.

  16. you can go see your doctor see if they give you anything but as you know sickness in pregnancy is bad and all pregnancys differ

  17. It is normal. Through my first pregnancy my morning sickness started quite mild at about 8 weeks and i was only sick in the morning. By the time i was about 12 weeks i couldn't keep anything down at all. I was constantly sick and lost lots of weight. You should always tell your midwife if something is worrying you for peace of mind but i think you being sick 3-4 times is very normal in the first trimester.
