No offense to the guy he is amazing. But I tuned in to watch SPORTS and the OLYMPICS....not a persistent biography, nationalism, ONLY coverage when the US wins, and tourism fluff for China.

Are you sick of this coverage?

  1. No one forced you to watch it

  2. NBC is definitely milking it.  The pride and joy of the Olympics in America is usually the track event, specifically the 100M.  Since there was hardly an American presence in that field, that event had a lack of press.  Phelps, no matter how you feel about him is amazing so they took that opportunity to capitalize on it.

  3. i think the media should learn to be more objective and show respect for the other nations instead of giving into the American self absorption.

  4. I'm not sick of it because I don't watch it at all. I practice at-will television viewing, and I watch TV very infrequently at that.

  5. I agree.

  6. Jealous much?

  7. I'm sick of it now but I'll be laughing my *** off when the coverage moves on to Michael Phelps caught with steroids.

  8. Not at all. Plus there are alternate channels USA Oxygen CNBC and MSNBC showing different sports at diffrent times of the day.

  9. I love Phelps. Yeah, people are a little obsessed, but if you watch a channel other than the United States one, (such as canadian, which shows in U.S.), they won't talk about Phelps as much. That's what I do, because the announcers for the U.S. are so freaking annoying, they drive me crazy. Aha. I hate how many commercials they have, by the way. They really have outdone it.

  10. im not sick of it and like valuecom said no one is forcing you to watch

  11. "No one says you have to watch it."

We actually do have to get past the 3 1/2 hours of Phelps coverage before we get to see some other competitions. And that's in EVERY Olympic Channel. Some events get interrupted by the Phelps biography. Its d**n annoying.

  12. lol, Maybe they should have two separate channels.  One that runs the Phelps biography and interviews 24/7 (along with the Misty May Kerri Walsh stories) and the other with actual Olympic events.  Those phans who love Phelps so much will watch that channel all day and the rest of us can watch the Olympics.

  13. For real. I wanted to watch actual competing, not some rant about how awesome he was. And he is awesome, I'm just getting tired of people covering it ALL THE TIME.

  14. No one says you have to watch it.

  15. nope i'm loving it

  16. Yeah definitely.  What sucks the most is how nobody gives Jason Lezak any credit.  If it wasn't for his crazy finish to beat out France in the team final, Phelps would only have 7 gold medals.  I bet he feels like a tool; that he was only trying his best and was put on the team so that Michael Phelps could set a record.  Nobody's talking about Jason Lezak.  They're just talking about Phelps' gold medals.

  17. I think it's really interesting, I just wish they would make it shorter...

  18. I'm british so i most probably don't see as much coverage as you, but i think what he has done is absolutely extraordinary and i think that's what many athletes of the future will be inspiring to achieve in the future, so i think he deserves all the coverage.

he set himself a target and achieved, that's what you call discipline and dedication.

I'm sure there is more than NBC that is covering the olympics

  19. I'm not SICK of it persay, but they could be much shorter....

The Olympics, and M.P are nothing new to US so idk why such a huge deal about it is made year after year about them.....maybe b/c the Olympics are just a huge conspiracy to distract people from the real, immediate problems in America?? I think so.

  20. What's wrong with you?  If the media didn't tell everybody how great he is, nobody would know.  NBC is doing a terrific job.  You are just anti-American.  All you anti-US people can just go back to your cave and stay there.

  21. Well, the biography and the melodramatic "struggle to get to Beijing" stuff is annoying, but they do that for every sporting event, not just NBC!

As with NBC becoming the Phelps Broadcasting Network, well, he won eight golds for the US of A, and half of the US gold medal totals when he got the last medal... he deserves it, and there really isn't anything much else positive for the US in the olympics, because we're getting pwned in athletics (Track) and winning silver medals in women's gymnastics when they arguably could be gold.

The only bright spots for the US right now are women's soccer, women's softball, men's and women's beach volleyball, and men's and women's basketball.  Other than that, we've choked, or just don't have it in these games.

  22. Well where ever the Olympics are ofcourse they are a "tour fluff" for that country.

The 2010 winter Olympics are going to be in British Colombia, Canada. This area is very beautiful and ofcourse the Olympics are going to show it off. I might be able to attend!

Anyway, i'm not sick of this whole Michael Phelps coverage. It's a big deal. But don't worry, if you are sick of it, this will slow down sooner or later.

  23. the NBC network has the olymipcs on 3 other channels and I have never seen swimming or MP o those ones.  Point is don't watch prime time nbc watch USA or MSNBC or CNBC.

  24. What he's done is amazing but other athletes deserve credit for their talents, that perhaps haven't been as fostered and developed as much. He has contributed almost half of the US's Gold medal haul of the games so far.

However,  the Olympics is about a worldwide co-operation, spirit and appreciation of each other... not just concentrating on the usual headliners.

    I agree with you.

  25. He's talented and everything, but it's so stupid.

  26. I'm tired of it, and I never even heard of the guy until a couple weeks ago. Annoying. So the guy is a really good swimmer. There are LOTS of other things going on in the Olympics besides this guy winning lots of medals for the same thing over and over.

  27. I kind of agree

However it IS noteworthy because it is HISTORY making.....

considering our otherwise bleak showing....in other areas...

may as well emphasize what we do BEST

watching womens beach volleyball yesterday brought me to tears!!

  28. i think alot of people are.
