  1. Depends.

Delta selection is based off of SAS selection.

But the units have different missions.

The SAS has the counter insurgency, anti terrorist and small unit missions.

Thier squadrons rotate thru each area every year.

While Delta is dedicated anti terrosist unit.

Delta spends far more time training for anti terror ops, than SAS members do.

    .........................................

Since the UK is smaller and has a smaller military,

The SAS are spec op generalist.

While the US Army is far larger,

So it has specialized its spec ops units.

With Special Forces handling the  counter insurgency mission

Delta handling the Anti terrorist mission

And the Rangers handling the small unit missions.

    .........................................

But Delta is now branching out past the anti terror mission.

But you still cannot really compare the units

Since they have fundamantaly different mission statements.

  2. The US Delta force is based on the SAS, and although there is a lot of similarities in them, SAS training is more intense (although there is no institutionalised training in the SAS, all members are expected to maintain their own level of fitness as well as being responsible for any specialised training they deem necessary)

To put it simply, Delta Force are good...the SAS are the best in the world.

  3. The missions for the two groups aren't identical so their training won't be the same. SAS does things that other parts of SOCOM focus on, so Delta doesn't spend a great deal of time training in those areas.

When you are looking at professional operators anyone that claims any one unit is better than another is simply showing their bias. Whether it is MARSOC, the SEALS, Delta, SF, etc. etc. etc. They are all the best at what they do specifically. They are better than the others and worse than the others depending on what the mission at hand is.

  4. They are very very similar.  Yes Delta is modeled after the SAS as the Special Air Services are older.  But to say one is harder than the other is probably someone who knows nothing about either and their actual training.  There is NO published record of any Delta Force training.  The Army will not discuss the training that takes place on thier compound
