  1. i have been in dance for 12 years which includes ballet and you never have to be a certain weight. but maybe if you want to dance perfessionaly it depends.

  2. Its not being skinny, it's being well fit and healthy. Ballet is the core for most dances, especially for competitions. By the time you get to a certain level you have to take ballet to keep up with the steps for jazz, lyrical, or even tap. with this being said now you know that doing ballet is important, but also hard working. make sure your healthy and you have a good fitness level. you don't need to have an extrememly good fitness level, but enough to keep up and not wareout your body. you can dance with any body shape and weight, just got to love what you are doing

  3. O.K. here's the scoop on skinny.  You don't have to be tremendously skinny to be in ballet. But first it depends on wether or not you are planning to do it professionaly. If you are, then you will probably be told at some point that you are not skinny enough, if you are a healthy weight, (as in not overweight) dont listen! people think that you have to be way skinny to do ballet and its not true! Theres a few girls in my calss that are bigger and they do just fine. Keep in mind though that at a professional level, you will need to mantain a healthy weight to succeed. But dont get your opinion of a healthy weight be your dance buddies, research it becuz there are to many unhealthaly skinny ballarianas.

  4. i doesn't matter. it really matters on how much you love it

  5. You don't have to be like stick thin to do ballet, it doesn't really matter how skinny you are. If you want to dance, then go for it!

  6. Skinny is not the answer for ballet! A well toned body with good muscle structure is the answer.

A bit of body fat on females actually helps their appearance in most dance situations.

Excessive body fat will always be a detriment  in dance.

  7. You don't have to be a certain size starting out!

The reason ballet dancers are skinny is because they end up that way!

I was kind of a chunky kid, and now I'm fairly skinny from all my years of ballet.

    It just happens that way!

NEVER EVER do anything that is an unhealthy method of losing weight though.

  8. To do ballet, as long as you work hard and are passionate about it, it does not matter what fitness level you are at.

  9. I have done dance and choreography when in Uni and i was a rugby player weighting 14 stones, 200 lbs roughly, its not really weight, more fitness. Unless you are huge, then that might be a little problem. Try it, see how you feel.

  10. I have been dancing since age 4 and dancing does keep you toned. I do gym, teach dancing - ballet & love pilates as it works and tones you. I feel that if you are chubby and have a problem with your weight, this should not influence your dancing if you love dancing. You may not get the leading part but sometimes you can do things just for fun.

  11. It's not a question of "skinny" - you have to be slim and fit, a little bit of body fat would soon melt away with the barre exercises but if you are a big lardy butt maybe you should try tap...
