Question:

How slow would a car have go for you to not get hurt when it hits you?

...or very minor injuries anyway. This is research for a novel...

Scene plays out like this: Meg (mc) turns around in the middle of crossing the road because she recognizes the person who was walking in the opposite direction, a business man in a car on the phone screeches to a halt and hits her, and ideally she rolls onto the bonnet and off again, but is not injured very much (she needs to be walking for later, but if a wrist is sprained etc, thats ok).

So, how would the car have to hit her? Does height have anything to do w. it? Does she have to be on a certain angle? Speed of car etc....

Ideas? :D

Thanks!!!!!!! :)

  1. It is possible to get killed at any speed. It is just how it happens and where/what/who you hit.

  2. depends on her physical fitness.

    is she a smoker?

    Bran flakes or fruity loops?

athletic or book worm or lush, ect?

If you give the human body what it needs it is very resilient.

If she is the type of person to drink and party, or sit around and read magazines or books, the speed will need to be slower and slower.

  3. reaaaally slow, it can hurt you going 15 km/h!!

  4. Well, let's think about this.  If the average Man weighs about 150 lbs.  And, the average sedan weighs about 2500 lbs.  I'm thinking that any amount of force by the larger object striking the smaller object would cause damage.

  5. No certain angle or anything, maybe 5mph but even at 5mph you could be injured so you cannot really answer this question, different speeds and different people.

  6. 20 km

  7. No more then 30 mph for a small car.  It really depends on the size of the car.

  8. slow

  9. Well I have seen people get railed by cars and get up with not even a scratch on them.

I don't think you can predict this.

Even a car going 5 mph can do something.

Ive seen someone get hit by a car doing 40.  He walked away with nothing, not even a scratch.

So I guess it all depends on how lucky you are.

  10. a lot of the variables of the injury would have to come from the specs of the car, if you wanted to get into detail.  If the bumper struck her, it would have to hit her around the waist/thigh area for her to roll onto the hood (bonnet).  This would make the car a larger sedan or a small SUV.  If it was a smaller car, where the bumper is lower to the ground, she would most likely fall onto the ground sincer the center of the force is so low.  I would say that the driver could not stop in time.  Then the readers could picture it and use their imagination on how fast the car was going.

  11. hi dear,

ya it depends on the angle of dash made by the car and the speed of the car as well, it also depend on the distance between the car and that lady. Well, if the speed is high it depends on how fast car stops and what type of breaks are applied. Here an ideal speed that can be controlled with a distance of about 10 - 15 ft is 40 - 50 Km/ hr.

I hope this satisfies you for the research else can give you full detail of it.

    TAKE CARE DEAR........ [:)]

  12. I've been hit by a car in a parking lot. Well..it was more of a hard tap. I was heading into the grocery store using the crosswalk, walking from the "parking area" to the store. I was about halfway across when this teenager came racing across the parking lot. When his car came to a complete stop it tapped my leg knocking me down to the concrete. I did get a few scrapes from the concrete and a nasty bruise where the car hit me. As soon as the driver realized he struck me he raced out of the parking lot before I could get his license plate number.

  13. 20 mph, right rear quarter panel (fender)

    Won't even have a scratch..

Personally, i had a front end accident at 60mph with an airbag and seatbelt, and only had a bruise from the seatbelt.

  14. zero.   Sure there's lotsa variables and luck may come into play (you don't really believe the 'Igot hit at 60 and not a scratch' stuff do you??) like bumper height, etc.  But, think about it.... if you stand still, say facing to the left of the car, and the driver ever so slowly pushes against your leg, think its gonna hurt/snap?
