How soon after I adjust the pH level in my pool can we go swimming?

I am adding some pH minus to the pool to get the alkalinity level down closer to the suggested range. How soon after its been added can we swim?

  1. To lower your alkalinity you should be using muriatic acid and not the granular pH minus. Muriatic is much better at lowering the alkalinity. You want to wait at least three hours after adding any acid to the pool so it can mix properly. pH minus is a granular acid (sodium bisulfate). It needs to mix properly so you dont inadvertantly swim through an area with a very low pH- especially with your eyes open. When raising your pH or TA you can swim right away.
