I am taking Wellbutrin SR 300 mg/day (150 mg x2). I am thinking of stopping for a while (have been on for 9 months)... to see if I can go without.

I wondered when I can have alcohol again? I am only an occasional drinker...

(FYI: Sometimes I only get my morning dose (150 mg) b/c I forget to take the evening one, but my mood seems to be stable regardless.)

  1. You will be fine whenever. They tell you not to drink because it minimizes the effects of the drug, but if you are not taking it then it won't matter. It can increase the drowsiness of alcohol as well but this is only minor if at all.

  2. Wellbutrin is the best medicine for individuals whom are alcohol addicts. Never drink alcohol if you have eaten this medication up to 12 hours before drinking and don't eat a tablet of it until after 12 hours that you had drank. In case you forget this at least remember that, You will certainly get a seizure by mixing your medication with alcohol !

As far as your forgetting to eat this medication is a question. I usually strongly suggest that no dosages be ever missed but if, You are really taking this medication for your alcohol problem then it's okay to miss a dose once in a while. Since, this medication has a lot of side effects and serious harms if overdosed compared to a less dose eaten by a patient with alcohol drinking problem.
