  1. This decision is best made between your wife and her physician.  While 8 weeks is typically the earliest you would want to begin to perform lifting or vigorous activity, in many cases you may want to wait longer to help complete healing.  This will depend upon how you wife has healed to that point following surgery.

I would typically suggest a gradual return to activity levels and would definitely NOT start right back to lifting.  Immediate lifting and transfering of patients can put a lot of strain on your wife's back and abdomen and slow any further healing or worse cause abdomen herias over incision sites.  Your wife would be best initially to try moderate activity - walking, light jogging, and at work, washing, mobility, feeding etc.  If she is comfortable withthese activities, she should progress to light lifts or be part of a two-person transfer of very light patients.

Eventually she will be able to perform all functions again, but I think taht it pays to b safe...

  2. Transfer to a new room or just have them walking?  That needs to be done as soon as the physician writes the order, and the nurse assesses the patients ability.

This will speed the recovery and reduce the pain.
