Question:

How soon after a tooth extraction can I rinse my mouth?

It's been about 24 hours since I've gotten two teeth pulled to make space for my braces and I don't know whether it's okay to go ahead and rinse since I hear that it may dislodge the blood clot. Also, is it a good idea to rinse the mouth with a salty water rinse? I hear from some people that it's an irritant but others say it keeps things clean. I'd appreciate some help. Thanks!

  1. seeing as its 24hrs ago, it would be a good idea to use a salty mouth wash, yes it does keep it clean and the salt promotes healing.

instead of swooshing the rinse in your mouth its better to gently hold the water in your mouth over the place of the extractionm tilting your head to one side can help as you do this, by gently holding the water and not swooshing it will prevent the blood clot from dislodging, after about 3 days you can start to swoosh a little , but go easy x*x good luck with your braces x*x
