How soon can i get my license? (have to renew permit) *i live in MARYLAND fyi?

I have had my permit for almost a year and i am not ready to get my license. I have to get another permit so i can keep practicing. If i get my new permit do i still have to wait another 6 months to get my license or can i get it whenever im ready since i had a previous permit? I live in Maryland if that helps since i know some states do it differently.
