How soon did you start making stuff for your wedding?

I am getting married June 20 2009. I'm already making wedding plans, that way I will know our budget and already have everything planned by the time the wedding comes ( I'm the type who plans way ahead )

I plan on making as much as possible for my wedding. The invitations, bouquets and all the wedding decorations.

How soon did you start buying stuff for your wedding and started making them? I kinda wanted to start now, that way if I mess anything up, I can always redo it or if I found another idea that I like, doing it that way....ect!

Thanks Lady =]

  1. I agree with all these answers. I am getting married October 2009 and I've already got a lot of the planning done. I'm also doing most of the stuff myself and I'm going to start invitations and centerpieces next month. Read some of the other questions on here and you'll see how stressed brides get. Do it early and get it outta the way!

  2. You want to start as soon as possible, so it gives you some room to make errors or start with new ideas in a timely manner. A couple things I did, 1 being the most important:

    1. Custom-made boxed invitations- Start 1 year in advance. To collect correct paper colors, textures, styles..then print, cut, glue, tie and mail them out 3 months before the wedding. This took a 2 weeks.

    3. Table centerpieces and bouquets. Start atleast 6 months in advace..you want to make sure that this is all in stock in the store and there is someone that can piece it together for you in time..finished within 2 weeks.

    2. Custom table signs. Same idea but I did this after the cards, since the cards are top priority. This only took 1-2 hours.

    4. Custom wedding programs. Same idea with the cards. Started 3 months before wedding, low priority...finished in 1 week.

Just give yourself a lot of time, you can even write it as a schedule so you won't stress out at the last minute. Your guests will be impressed that you were so creative and that you spent alot of time and effort.

  3. I'm getting marry august 2009 and I already got my photographer, bought save the date cards and I'm about to buy the invitations.  Try to buy things that you know that can be put down until that day

  4. NOW - Well, I know from my own wedding that getting started now will be a huge benefit to you as far as doing things yourself. You can have a very nice wedding done yourself but you need to do research in order for your efforts to pay off! June 2009 is not far off - you should have the places for your ceremony and reception already reserved as the best places book up fast for the date you want to do. I got started way ahead of time so that I could shop for materials and research the best options for everything. Doing a little at a time early will pay off for you since things get hectic near the end. Start with a good plan and have friends help as they will be asking you if there is anything they can do! Congratulations!
