  1. All children are not equal - that's why we need to make sure everyone is included.  Encourage your typicals to help the delayed children or handicapped children so everyone is included in every activity.  If someone is having a hard time reaching the parachute because they are in a wheelchair, have everyone bring it down a notch so he/she is included also.  We are all a class or a preschool family, I tell them - and we need everyone to make this work.  Good luck.

  2. This is a good question and something that is not always easy to achieve. I have found that many times when a child is not included in the social play, if the teacher encourages another child to ask the one alone to join them - it will happen. I try to watch closely for any lone children on the playground. Once you get this going it seems to continue without too much teacher involvement. It is also important to watch for the child who encourages others not to play with a child who might not be the "normal" in the class. He might be a little more rough, timid, or even wears different clothes. The child who is sneaky about leaving this child out needs to be corrected and their parent needs to know what he is doing. During structured play it can be easier for the teacher to have rules that include all children.
