How strict are they about 16 year olds drinking in Ireland?

I'm taking a trip and don't want to get arrested. I know that if you even try to buy beer underage in the US, they can arrest you.

Is that the same in Ireland?

I'm not planning on getting drunk or doing anything stupid.

yes it is strict!although teenagers do drink alot over here!they mostly get other older people to go in.if your lucky enough and you look 18 you will get served alcohol.The Garda dont arrest you they jst take note of your name.But if the person buyin alcohol to a person under 18 would be arreset and fined!

You can get drink quite easly if your under age.

The police can do noting more than take the alcholol if your not drunk. Really up tight police may tell who ever taking care of you. If you do get caught by the police drunk you will be held over night in the station and fine you in the morning.

If you look over 18 you`ll probably be ok but if you do get asked for  ID say sorry and walk away. The bouncers will throw you out and they will not be pleasent about doing it if you get caught lieing. If you have an Irish guide or some one to buy drink for you it would solve a lot of problems.

Watch yourself if your drinking cider, shots or any german looking beer as i think they have a higher % than your used to. Try to stick to the brands you know from America.

To all those people who are looking at this and asking who dare i give advice to minor about buying alchol please get off your high horse and live a little.

they are stricked in ireland i would not get to drunk remember the porcentage of the beer is higher then in the usa.
