I know that the checked baggage limit is 50 pounds and the personal baggage is 10 pounds. To all those who have flied Air China, are they strict about baggage being a few pounds overweight? Also, if I bring along personal baggage that is a few pounds heavier, is that okay? Thanks!

  1. Domestically, the China airlines are lax on weight and luggage size.  You will see a lot of passengers with over-stuffed, over-sized luggage.  However, with new fuel costs that is likely to change in the near future.  You will probably get away with overweight luggage, but caution is advised.  The only constant in China right now is change.

  2. Overweight baggage is really important to the Chinese because of the gas prices rising and the economics changing. They don't want to have to pay the extra money for overweight baggage. Therefore the limit is 20 kg or around 50 lbs. You must be sure to stay under the limit, the air china men are really strict about overweightness. If you have to bring lighter objects and think about how many bags you want to put it in.
