Just curious after watching a movie.

How quickly would authorities react if a women called in saying she was getting beat, harrassed, threatened by a man or husband?

Would the man like immediatley be hancuffed, and in jail?

Would he be allowed bail? Cause if he left jail he could go kill his wife or her relatives.

Just wanted to know after watching a movie about this lady getting beat by her husband.

  1. I've watched the show Cops before.

It looks like if she has marks on her, she can choose if she wants to press charges or not.  But like 90% of the time she doesn't.

  2. Well, she can choose whether or not to press charges, but they can make an arrest when responding to a domestic violence call. They hold the person they feel responsible until the other party decides whether or not they want to press charges.

If it's so bad that one person doesn't want the other back, usually people file restraining orders to keep the other away, although it isn't exactly a deterrent for those who are obsessive.

These laws try to protect women but sometimes there are ways the man finds a way to get to her. They aren't as strong as people think.

  3. It depends. I've seen quite a few cases in my state where a restraining order was a joke to the police. In a recent case, a former wife got a restraining order against her ex after he threatened to kill her and had beaten her, the ex kept coming to her house, threatened to kill her and her children, she'd call the police, they'd come after a while (she lived two blocks from the police station) and they would not arrest her ex spouse (they said they couldn't find him, but they all lived in a small town). He started digging a huge hole across from her house and when someone asked him what he was doing, he said he was digging a grave for his wife and kids. The police didn't catch or arrest him after they were told of his plans. The ex did come back and murder his daughter and slit his wife's throat. She dragged herself to the police station. She barely survived.

Some communities take domestic abuse and death threats seriously, others don't. I grew up in small towns where no one cared.

  4. Women will always play the helpless role, as it ensures that women can extract male protection for very little price.

    Men are sooooooo dumb.

  5. Most states detain both parties in a domestic disturbance automatically until they can determine what the issue is.  In many cases, victims call or a concerned neighbor calls, and the victim feels too intimidated to tell the police what really happened.  Bail would be determined based on the severity of the injuries and the record of the offender.  Generally, they will be forced to stay apart for 24 hours, and either can be charged if they violate that.

  6. Yes he would, it happens every day. Police always take the word of a women before a man.
