Question:

How strong can a man be?

I was given a challenge to write about the strength of a man. For what it's worth, here goes...

The Strength of a Man

To gauge the strength of mortal man,

A test to do the most you can.

This has been done since dawn of time,

Could too much strength become a crime?

Or could it be that strength is weak,

And what's not strong is what we seek.

Strength of mind will win a fight,

When paired against the strength of might.

So who is strong, the muscle bound,

Or he who in his mind is found.

If both were joined, so it would seem,

The two could make an awesome team.

  1. The strength of man is often found

in words which can be so profound.

And you have strength for all to see

in your fine words of poetry.

(However, I think you could develop the theme and extend your poem by another verse or two.)

    Cheers.

  2. Dondi, it is as beautiful and lyrical as always.  You are a true poetic master.  I love your work.

  3. a challenge easily met by a real strong and smart man like you Dondi.

awesome poem, i think it took your heart and grace to do it too.

  4. Arm wrestle ya for a beer.

Ya gotta buy me the beer first, though.

Note: That was only a joke; I would never arm wrestle Dondi on my lap top.

  5. It's awesome! Aha, as I read your poetry my mouth flew open as my chin dropped. Seems to me you surpassed the challenge. I love it. I agree with all the comments. Wonderful! Thanks for sharing. I love the strength of the man's wisdom!

  7. This could be man or woman this poetry is talking about!  Each have there own strengths and weakness and each has physical strength and wisdom to complement and balance the body mind and spirit! Enjoyed your poetry much!

    Cheers

  8. Dondi, you are one of the strongest men I've I had the pleasure to meet on this or any other site.  A wonderful poem, and a thousand blessings on you!

  9. I can imagine you reading it with your cowboy hat on and a southern drawl...

  10. oh ye....pardon the french....but I fucccccking love it!

  11. To be sound in body and soul - indeed sounds whole.  If I had a choice - I'd take a happy mind - no depression and love for each day.  This frame of mind would have an advantage in overcoming the shortcomings of the body. ♥

  12. Very well done indeed, seems you have uncovered and pleasantly penned the real strength of character in a man. I figure physical strength comes in about 13th on a scale of importance... and I've probably overrated it.

They say it is the survival of the fittest but what good is it if you don't know where the bomb shelter is when the nukes hit...

...but as you say, it would be nice to combine the two.

  13. You have certainly met the challenge, joining rhyme, meter and message. Physical strength is temporary. The mind keeps working long after the body becomes frail. There comes a time when we can no longer wield the sword, but the words are endless and timeless.

  14. Together what a team! Yes- I agree indeed! Fantastic poem. A++
