How strong is an 8.1 earthquake?

Question

do u know of a site where there's a video or simulator of an 8.1 earthquake. i'm just worried coz here in the philippines there's a rumor that on friday we will have an 8.1 earthquake. i'm just curious how strong it is.

Was in the Loma Prieta 89 quake, it wasn't as strong as an 8.1 but it was loud and fierce, it only lasted 20 seconds but it felt like a lifetime.  Just remember not to hide under a desk or in a doorjamb, get out if you can, no stairwells!!!  If you can't find the tallest object in the room, curl up in a fetal position behind it, there is a new report out that if you do that the object will take the punishment but leave a triangle shaped wedge where you can survive till help comes.

this may not make you feel very good.  An 8.1 earthquake is about 10^8 times stronger than a 1.0 earthquake.  I don't know really how strong it is, but it's an educated guess.
