Hi!

I went to a endodontist & he did a rootcanal & put temporary filling.

He told me that my tooth had a crack but he didnt think it was significant enough to pull the tooth out & that the tooth might be saved by RC & crown.he said they'll monitor the tooth for a year & see how it goes if it cracks then he'll extract it if not then I can go my merry way.

My question is---

1. Is it possible to save a cracked tooth by RC & crown?

2.Since I'll be paying $900 for it should I take a chance on it or if it'll break anyway then not take a chance on it?

3.If the tooth cracks under the crown will it be detected ?

4. HAs any1 gone thru this problem?

Can any1 help me please?

  1. 1. Yes, we do it all of the time.

    2.  You have an excellent chance of still having this tooth many years from now if you crown a molar after treatment.

    3.  Yes, but the chance of it continuing to crack are slim.

    4. See # 1.

  2. 1 ---It is the Human body and things can happen that cannot be predicted....

#2  We hope that it will be sucessful.....but there are no guarantees

#3  Have had one that worked (so far) and one that did not....,

#4--You have to trust what they are telling you....do you trust them?

Sometimes you just take your chances.,..as a natural tooth there with a crown is better than any replacement....and you will still have options down the line even if it should happen to fail....

Most Dr.s are pretty honest about their assesments....they want sucesses too!

  3. 1= yes, with the rc and following crown most are savable

2=rc will lead to it definitely breaking in future

3=this depends on the kind of crack it is  because with a rc and a crown the tooth can last many years

4= I have fixed many of these problem teeth
