I am a first time gardener and Im growing a morning glory vine in my yard. I have a 5 foot trellis for it to climb, but the dang thing just keeps getting taller and taller. the longest vine is like a foot longer than the height of the trellis! can I make it stop growing without killing it? can I try training the vines to grow back down along the other side of the trellis? how tall is this thing going to get??? it isnt blooming yet either, but I am way up north, so maybe that's normal. any help would be appreciated.

  1. I have morning glories right now and they are like yours, just keep on growing. The package said it wouldn't get taller than 5' but mine has grown past 6ft. We just cut the tops off and it does just fine. As far as the flowers go, mine only open in the morning, then they are closed by noon. They continue this cycle everyday until the flower dies. When it dies, be sure to pick it off so it promotes new growth.

  2. And you can just let it get longer. Eventually the tops will flop down and start twining back up. Definitely cutting the tops off will make the vine create more branches.

  3. If you cut at the top of your trellis, you will force more vines on the bottom and start faster blooming.
