  1. It's personal prefference I like tall backsplashes, when you're washing dishes and food or grease splashes  it's much easier to clean the backsplash than to clean paint or plaster. I would like mine to be six to eight inches then maybe taper down to a three inch after the sink

  2. This depends on what you would like to see when you are in your kitchen, mine is as big as the back space behind my sink,,,,it has sunflowers painted and the fake ones it is pretty cool...

  3. this answer generally depends on the type of countertops you have, and of course, personal preference.  formica, granite, quartz, etc typically have a 4 inch backsplash, unless requested taller (or requested not at all).  the premade formica or granite backsplashes can be removed from the wall and a tiled backsplash can be installed the complete distance between counters and cabinets.  it's much easier to clean a completely tiled backsplash than to wipe down the little 4 inch granite and the other foot or so of a painted wall.   grease will stain the painted surface in time and will start to look rather cruddy.  a tiled backsplash brings your house's value up some as well.

  4. Mine is tiled from counter top to bottom of cabinets (like eienmomo wrote about).  It works very well - easy cleanup!

  5. 4inches
