How tall should you be to ride a 14.3 HH horse?

My appy is 14.3 and I am 5'3" tall. Am i too tall for my horse?

  1. You are fine for that horse, don't worry about it and have fun.


  2. I had an appy named Filligree and she was only 14.3hh and I am 5ft 7.  I would not have wanted to have any smaller a horse for my height but we got along  fine.

  3. It is not so much your height as your weight and the breed of the horse.

    A stockier breed of horse can carry more weight than the finer sorts and there is a big difference between someone who is 5ft3 and weighs 8 stone and someone who is 5ft3 and weighs 12 stone.

    When I was at college 10 years ago, I regularly exercised the school ponies, one of which was only 10hh!  I am 5ft6 and at the time only weighed about 7stone7lbs!  Sadly I am no longer that weight!!!
