How th hotwire a 1974 VW supper beetle? (1600cc)?

I bought a beetle and there was no keys for it there is an all black wire all red wire a black wire with a yellow stripe a white wire with a red stripe and a small white wire with a black stripe and those were the only ones that were connected to the ignition

  1. Check this site...look under the classified button.

    You should be able to find a new/used switch or a new/used key cylinder fairly cheap...then you can just swap it out.

  2. why did you buy it without keys? maybe instead of s******g around with the wiring, you should contact VW. they must have a key pattern for every car, it'd probably just cost you a pretty penny to get it. which must be better in the long run than hot wiring

  3. dont s***w around with the wires..   If you are pulled over by the police you will have a LOT of explaining to do plus if the wires touch the steering column while you are driving, you may have the engine simply die . If you are driving on the freeway this could be a disaster in the making.

    It will cost you about $50 for a new switch and they are really easy to drop in .. you just pull the wheel and the switch is right there.
