Question:

How the Ducks acquired Scott Niedermayer?

I know there was another question just like this one but it didnt really help me so i'll ask. What did Kevin Lowe mean when he said this:

"Don't even ask me about Scott Niedermayer, I've already lowered myself in terms of (talking about) how they acquired him," he said. "That's a story for another day, but they were able to bring Niedermayer and Pronger in and they won a Stanley Cup."

So I've been wondering for a while now after I read those comments, how did Burke end up getting Scott Niedermayer? Or how did he allegdly get him to sign with the Ducks? What was the contraversy?

  1. Free agency from the Devils so he could play with his brother.  He was a free agent and opted to go to CA....while I would love to have him back I respect his decision and when he passed the cup to his brother, that will be the happiest I ever am when someone other than a devil is hoisting the cup....

  2. Burke used Scotts  brother Rob to let him know what he would offer him when he became a free agent (terms and amount) before the free agency date! Or some people believe thats what he did. The NHL rules state that you can not have any contact with a player before NOON of the said Free Agency date. So if he did have his brother tell him what he would be offered. That would be a violation of league rules, unless he was given permission by New Jersey to do so. Which, apparently he wasnt.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, please!

  3. I know that one of the factors that helped Burke sign Scott Niedermayer was that his brother Rob played for Anaheim.

  4. In the 2003 finals it was New Jersey Devils VS The Ducks!

Scott Niedermayer for New Jersey Devils and Rob Niedermayer for the Ducks. In the 2003 finals the devils won! After the finals the ducks wanted him. They got him as a free agent!
