How the New Jersey Nets are affected by the NBA lockout? – NBA Special Report
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has officially locked out its players and that has kindled a number of concerns for the New Jersey Nets, who were among the weakest teams in the last season. The Nets finished the regular
season with only 24 wins and lost 58 defeats.
Before the 2011 NBA Draft, the possibility of the lockout was looming, but the Nets were focusing only on their goals in the offseason. New Jersey’s general manager Billy King was preparing his team to draft the best available
talent from the board and run after the free agency to land the best players to transform his team into play-off contenders in the next season.
Nets acquired three players from the draft while the free agency didn’t take place on Friday as a result of the expiration of the previous Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) on the same day. With lockout now in effect, all of
the arrangements for the franchise is now on hold.
The two most concerning issues for the New Jersey Nets during the lockout are discussed below.
Deron Williams
The Nets procured the All-Star Deron Williams in a trade with the Utah Jazz that made the roster look a lot better. The acquisition of William provided hope to New Jersey to build up their team around a superstar.
However the terms of the contract states that the influential point guard Williams can go with the options of becoming a free agent in the summer 2012. Williams will be looking forward to be a part of the team where he can win
an NBA title as the Nets were focusing on to provide some support to Deron in the 2011-2012 to convince him to stay in the team.
But if the next season is completely lost because of the lockout, the franchise will lose the chance to encourage Williams to stay in the Nets uniform and he might shift his talent somewhere else after the next season.
This is the biggest concerns New Jersey Nets are facing at the moment and they will be strongly hoping to play the next season.
Re-signing Kris Humphries
The 26 year old power forward Kris Humphries turned into an unrestricted free agent after the 2010-2011 season. The prolific Kris has established himself into a major double-double threat in the last season as he averaged 10.0
points and 10.4 rebounds. Humphries wants to return to the team and the New Jersey Nets are also willing to re-sign him. However, the new rules that will come into play once the league comes back to business and how much salary should be offered is the second
major concern for the franchise.
