So if there were no devil, there would be no evil in man? Hogwash. We all make choices every day. We have free will. How you were brought up and how you feel about the "brotherhood of man" should be your guide. If you choose to live in our society, their is an implied social contract. If you choose to break that, you are accountable for your mistakes.

Frans De Waal has written a very interesting book on this subject. He claims that other primates, such as chimps  have an innate morality which is linked to reciprocity, and which provides an evolutionary advantage.
