How the mighty Liverpool have fallen this season? – Part 2
The defeat at home to Blackpool was followed by the good news of the sale of the club. New http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 Sports Ventures were the new owners of the most decorated football club on English soil.
A derby win would have been a perfect way to welcome new owners and erase bad memories of their loss to the Seasiders. However, if problems were solved off the pitch, they only got worse on it with defeat at the hands of bitter rivals Everton.
New Owner John W. Henry attended the match but witnessed a shambolic display by his team as they were outclasses by their cross-city rivals.
Everton’s two most important players, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mikel-Arteta-c25715 put their name on the score sheet to hand an underwhelming Liverpool their fourth defeat of the season after only 8 games. The loss left Liverpool second from bottom and in utterly abysmal
state.
Liverpool made some sort of a revival after their derby day disappointment when they beat Blackburn at home and followed that up with their first away win of the season against Bolton Wanderers.
However, their highest point of the season came when they beat http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 2-0 at home. Fernando Torres was the man who struck both the goals as Liverpool fans started to believe that their team had turned a corner and the results will soon be flowing their
way.
The fixture list looked reasonably favourable as well. Their next two games against Wigan Athletic and Stoke City looked winnable. However, normal service resumed as Roy Hodgson’s men could only manage a tame draw at the DW Stadium and were torn apart by
Stoke City at the Britannia stadium.
The big men of Stoke were too strong for Liverpool players and they bullied their under-confident opponents off the park. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricardo-Fuller-c30989 scored
a rather scruffy goal after which http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kenwyne-Jones-c20659 sealed all three points for the Potters.
It got worse for Liverpool as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lucas-c22528 was handed a red card late on. This result also saw Stoke City leapfrog Liverpool in the table.
Liverpool came back strong the following week against a shocking West Ham outfit who literally surrendered from the very first minute. However, it was a tale of home wins and away defeats after that.
Liverpool lost away to Tottenham but for the very first in the season, they put up some fight away from home. This was followed by another impressive home win against Aston Villa.
However, their defeat to Newcastle United away from home left Liverpool fans with no hopes whatsoever from future away games.
Liverpool had two games called off before their showdown at home to Wolves- a game which marked the return of their talisman, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952, who at that time had only picked up a single point
from their travels.
Wolves’ players closed Liverpool down and forced them into errors. The defeat to Mick McCarthy’s men was http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s third in 4 league matches. The performance from the players was so dire that it led to Kop singing for the return of Kenny Dalgish and “Hodgson
for England.”
The result put Hodgson under serious amount of pressure and for the very first time it looked as if his time was up. Hodgson’s comment after defeat to Wolves left his relationship with the fans irreparable. He accused fans for their lack of support after
they had booed the team off the pitch.
However, with fixtures coming thick and fast, NESV decided to stick by their manager who earned some more time at the hot seat by winning at home against Bolton. He owed the win to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Cole-c18694 who tapped in a stoppage time winner.
Despite the win, Liverpool fans wanted Hodgson to be sacked and their claim gained further momentum after Liverpool’s latest slum, away to Blackburn. The 3-1 hammering has now surely ended this disastrous reign of Roy Hodgson.
He certainly has failed to live up to the expectations and has in truth taken the club backwards. A fourth place finish now seems a distant dream and with games against Manchester United, Blackpool and Everton in the next 10 days, NESV need to make a quick
decision on Hodgson’s future. One thing is certain: Roy Hodgson is on borrowed time at Liverpool Football Club.
