How thick should the plate be on upper false teeth.?

I had my teeth removed a month ago. went to get my teeth and there was a gap between the roof of my mouth and the plate.. she put some white stuff to build up the plate ,now it is about a 1/4 inch thick. feels like i have a brick in my mouth. is this way to thick it sure feels like it is... thank you mike

  1. The Dentist or Dental Assistant obviously put a temporary liner in your denture, after six months when the healing is all done, they will be able to put a permanent reline in to make the denture fit like a glove, at that time they will be able to thin the denture.  Be patient, during the first six to eight months there is so much healing that the denture will not fit until the permanent reline.  If they are too thick, call your dentist and let him/her know.


  2. A 1/4 of an inch is usually very thick and can induce gag reflex for some people.

    Ideally, dentures should be 3 to 4 mm (1/8 inch) thick on the palate in order to be comfortable to wear.

    Maybe your denture is only a temporary one and that is why it was made so thick?
