  1. you need to stretch more. If you get it again, try to lock your leg into a really straight position and dont bend it.

  2. do not stay in water for a long time. come out in between

  3. Maybe you should try drinking isotonic drinks before swimming to make sure your salt levels don't get too low.

  4. make sure that you are breathing enough when you are swimming.

if you do get a cramp when you are swimming dont panic. take a deep breath and float on your back or front (whichever you are more comfortable with) while rubbing and stretching the area that has the cramp

  5. just swim it off

  6. Nutrition, Nutritiion, Nutrition, and conditioning.  The cramping is caused by a chemical imbalance.  You need more oxygen, salt (potasium choride) and lots of water.    you probably point your toes on purpose.  Let your kicking power stem from your hips, through the quads, do not use your calves.  Also try to relax. The more excited you get, the more glycogen you burn.  Dry baked potatoes do more wonders than bannanas.  Do not drink caffine, it is a diuretic.

  7. Do a warming up.
